Spider Control Gold Coast and Tips on How to Treat a Spider Bite

Most people have no clue that arachnophobia is one of the most common phobias in Australia. The growing number of people with this fear may have everything to do with the overwhelming number of dangerous, venomous spiders that call this country home.

Not all spiders are harmful, and some benefit the ecological system. However, that doesn’t mean that anyone wants them in their home.

Tips on How to Treat a Spider Bite

The first thing that most folks want to do when a spider has bitten them is to panic. However, letting anxiety overtake the situation is only going to make things much worse. It’s best to remain calm and follow these three steps to ensure safety.

1. Capture the Spider

If it can safely be done, capture the spider in a container for identification. Sadly, it’s not always possible to catch it or to know what bit, but, if possible, it helps with the identification process at the hospital.

2. Apply a Cold Compress

Ice will help keep swelling under control, so it’s best to place a cold compress over the bite area. Make sure to wrap it in a soft cloth so the coldness doesn’t become too much for the skin.

3. Get the Person to the Hospital

Since there are so many dangerous spiders in Australia, it’s best to take the patient to the hospital. This step might be skipped if an identification can be made, and the spider is proven non-venomous. However, it’s always best to err on the side of caution regarding spider bites.
