Three Must-see Places to Visit on Your Vacation to San Pedro, Belize

by | Sep 20, 2022 | Hotels & Resorts

The country of Belize is only about 9,000 square miles in area, but don’t let its small size fool you. Belize is the perfect vacation destination for diving and snorkeling adventures, relaxing on sunny beaches or exploring ancient ruins. Here are three must-see attractions to visit on your Belize vacation.

Explore the Barrier Reef

The town of San Pedro is located on Ambergris Caye, a 25-mile-long island surrounded by a barrier reef. Visitors will want to spend lots of time in the water exploring the reef and Hol Chan Marine Reserve. Snorkeling and diving shops offer all the equipment you need along with daily guided excursions.

Observe Wildlife

One thing you must experience on your Belize vacation is the variety of wild animals that call the country home. The Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary is the world’s premier site for jaguar preservation. Catch a glimpse of the majestic jungle cat, or explore the banks of the Monkey River to see crocodiles, iguanas, boas and howler monkeys in their natural habitat.

Visit an Ancient Mayan Site

Travel just north of Belize City to visit Altun Ha, an ancient Mayan city with pyramids, tombs and temples. One of the highlights of Altun Ha, which translates to “Rockstone Pond” in the Yucatec Maya language, is the intact man-made lagoon. You should also check out the Temple of the Green Tomb, where the ancient city’s elite priest-kings are buried alongside their luxurious possessions.
